If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected...
Maybe you’re carrying more than anyone sees.
From the outside, things might look fine. You show up. You manage responsibilities. You keep going. But internally, something feels heavy.
Maybe you're experiencing:
-
Anxiety or ongoing stress that feels hard to quiet
-
Depression or a loss of motivation and energy
-
Difficulty with boundaries or boundary setting in relationships
-
Patterns of codependency or overextending yourself for others
-
Ongoing family conflict or complicated family dynamics
-
Challenges in peer relationships or romantic partnerships
-
Communication struggles that leave you feeling unheard
-
Questions around self-esteem and self-worth
-
The emotional weight of grief or unresolved loss
-
Major life transitions — career shifts, separation, identity changes
-
The pressures of parenting or supporting others as a caregiver
-
A need for healthier, more sustainable coping skills
If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone and you’re not broken.
Together, we can:
-
Understand patterns that once helped you cope but may no longer serve you
-
Strengthen communication and build healthier boundaries
-
Develop practical coping tools for anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
-
Explore family, parenting, and relationship dynamics with clarity and compassion
-
Build a stronger, more grounded sense of self

Therapeutic & Theoretical Approaches
I draw from a range of evidence-informed approaches to tailor therapy to your unique needs, goals, and lived experiences.

Person-Centered
Person-centered therapy creates a safe, supportive space where you are heard, valued, and respected. Together, we focus on your experiences and inner wisdom to foster growth and meaningful change.
Strength-Based
Strength-based therapy focuses on identifying and building upon your existing strengths, resilience, and resources. Rather than concentrating solely on problems, we work collaboratively to empower your capacity for positive change.
Trauma-Informed
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes the impact of past experiences and prioritizes safety, trust, and empowerment. We move at your pace, using compassionate approaches that support healing without re-traumatization.
Other approaches include:
Attachment-Based
Focuses on how early relationships shape emotional patterns and supports building secure, healthy connections.
Culturally Sensitive
Honors your cultural background, values, and identity as central to the therapeutic process.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Explores different “parts” of yourself with curiosity and compassion to promote inner balance and healing.
Cognitive Behavioural (CBT)
Helps identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors to improve mood and coping skills.
Emotional-Focused
Strengthens emotional awareness and connection to foster healthier relationships and secure bonds.
Relational
Focuses on patterns in relationships and how connection impacts emotional wellbeing.
Compassion-Focused
Supports developing self-compassion to reduce shame, self-criticism, and emotional distress.
Humanistic
Emphasizes personal growth, self-awareness, and your innate capacity for change.
Solution Focused Brief (SFBT)
Centers on practical, goal-oriented strategies that build on your strengths and existing resources.
A Little About Me
Hello, I'm Marina King.
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) based on Vancouver Island, offering in-person counselling in Nanaimo and virtual sessions across British Columbia.
My work is shaped not only by professional training, but by lived experience. I am adopted, have Indigenous lineage, and have spent years supporting Indigenous communities and families. I’m also a partner, a daughter, a sister, and a dog mom, someone who understands what it means to hold many roles at once while navigating identity, belonging, and complexity.
These experiences deeply inform how I show up in the therapy room. I believe healing happens in relationship. While our early experiences often shape us, supportive and attuned connections can also help us grow in new ways. Many of the strategies we rely on today once helped us survive. Together, we approach those patterns with curiosity and compassion, not judgment, so you can build new ways of coping, connecting, and caring for yourself.
My approach is relational, client-centred, and trauma-informed. I meet you where you are and move at a pace that feels steady and respectful.
If you’re considering counselling, I know reaching out can feel vulnerable. I would be honoured to walk alongside you.

Let's Connect
Beginning therapy can feel vulnerable. You don't need to know exactly what you want to work on before booking.
The first step is having a chance for us to briefly connect, answer questions, and see if it feels like a good fit.
